An important aspect of the mission of Walsh County Historical Society is to preserve the written history of Walsh County. Newspapers are a valuable source of information regarding our pioneer heritage, as they include names, dates and places for vital genealogical information such as births, marriages and deaths, as well as stories and information about what life was like in the past. However, these old newspapers are quickly deteriorating to the point where they will soon be crumbling to dust.
To that end, we are endeavoring to photograph these delicate records and create a computer database where they can be viewed for generations to come. A computerized index will then be created so a name search can be done to locate a specific event. If you are good with a digital camera and have a passion for preserving these valuable records, you would be an ideal candidate for this position.
